15 to 20 grams of protein per serving is ideal for muscle growth. Half before, and half after a workout is just about right. Your body cannot really absorb, and synthesize any more than that. In the following article we are going to look at some convenient muscle snacks that you can bring to the gym to help fuel your muscle growth.
Hard boiled eggs are by far the most convenient protein filled snack that you can bring with you, hands down. 3 hard boiled eggs have roughly 20 grams of easy to eat, easy to absorb protein. Boil a dozen or 2 at the beginning of the week so you have them wherever, and whenever you need them.
Chocolate Protein
Whey protein powder is still the most popular choice of convenient protein. Although more expensive than eggs, a whey protein shake can be more satisfying after a workout. Whey is also absorbed by the body very fast, making it ideal post workout. With all of the different choices of flavors and brands you are sure to find one that is right for you.
Yogurt is often overlooked by many muscle builders but it is really ideal for a pre workout snack. Skip flavored, sugary yogurts and opt for unflavored yogurt that you can put your own fruit in. Berries and peaches are great. A standard serving of yogurt has about 15 grams of protein, this is perfect. So do not forget about this awesome snack.
Great tasting and packing 15 grams of protein per serving, chocolate milk is by far my favorite pre and post workout protein snack. It is refreshing, filling, and it tastes awesome. It is also very conveniently packaged for travel. I like good old whole milk too. It will usually have right around 333 calories. But if you drink it before your workout, you have nothing to be concerned about. Newer to the market is coconut milk, which is highly regarded by health enthusiasts for protein and EFA's.
Canned tuna, sliced chicken, and sliced turkey are ideal for a post workout meal. I prefer tuna just because one half of a can has 22 grams of protein. So throw some on a couple of pieces of whole grain bread and pack your cooler for the gym.
